It is worth hiring a car when you arrive at Pisa Airport so that you can explore areas off the beaten track and have the freedom to do it when you choose.

The historic city of Pisa is situated in western Tuscany and is famous all over the world for its Leaning Tower.

Pisa is full of historic monuments and buildings which date back over many hundreds of years and much of this beautiful city has retained its medieval appearance. There are a couple of tourist information offices in and around the city centre who provide the latest information about tourist attractions, museums, events, local festivals and sightseeing tours.

In the north-west corner of Pisa there is a huge green area where four very impressive gleaming white marble are located.  They are the enormous Duomo (cathedral) which was  built almost 1,000 years ago, the cathedral's bell tower (better known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa), the circular Battistero (Baptistery) which  the largest of its kind in the whole of Italy and the Camposanto (the Holy Field)  which is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. This area of Pisa is known as the Campo dei Miracoli or the Piazza dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) and these incredible buildings offer great examples of Moorish, Gothic and Romanesque architecture.
